About Ford Ranger

In Australia, the Ford Ranger was based on Mazda B-Series Pickups between 1998 and 2001. From 1998 to 2006 PE, PG and PH Ranger and Ford Courier were based on the fifth generation B-Series Mazda pickup also called the Mazda Bravo. The 2006–2011 Ranger (PJ and PK) in was not just a rebadged Mazda but featured its own styling and enhanced feature while retaining the BT-50 as a base. The PJ-PK Ranger offered two 4-cylinder turbo diesel Duratorq engines, 2.5L and 3.0L. The 2009 facelift was called the PK Ranger.

In 2011 the PX Ranger was launched based on the T6 platform developed by Ford Australia. The Ranger was offered in both 2-wheel and 4-wheel drive with three cab arrangement, a 2-door, SuperCab and 4-Door. The 4x4 version has increased ground clearance, but the 2-wheel drive version could be ordered as a Hi-Rider with similar ground clearance to the 4wd version. The PX MKII was a facelift of the T6 generation Ranger and again in 2019 PX MkIII to bring the design inline with Ford's design framework at the time.

The second generation T6-based ranger the RA was developed with global input from Ford and featured better handing and 4x4 capabilities and a 3L V6 was added to the engine lineup. This model is the base for the third generation Ford Everest SUV and the second generation VW Amarok. The second generation Mazda BT-50 is mechanically the same as the Ranger, with different body and interior styling.

The Ranger variants over the T6 models have been XL, XLS, and XLT trim levels and the 4wd Ranger Sport, Ranger FX4, Range Raptor, Ranger Wildtrak and the Ranger Wildtrak X. The Wildtrak features wider stance and higher ground clearance. The Raptor is powered by the 3.0L V6 engine. Both have significant decals and body styling enhancements.
