About Mitsubishi Triton
The Triton was initially sold as a basic low-cost utility pickup truck with anything between a 1.8L to 2.6L petrol engine and 2.3-2.5L diesel engines. By the third generation, Mitsubishi was offering 2.5L and 2.8L turbo diesel engines and a 3.0L v6 petrol engine. The Mitsubishi Challenger was also released as a compact 4wd wagon based on the Triton platform.
The fourth generation ML/MN Triton was released in 2006 and was popular for its styling and its roomy interior, particularly for back seat passengers compared to other pickups. It was sold a 2-door cab chassis for commercial tray back use and a 4-door pickup. The 4 door was a big seller due to its roomy and comfortable interior, which meant the weekday workhorse could also be used for weekend family time.
The fifth generation of the MQ Triton arrived in 2015. The range consisted of GLS, GLX and Exceed variants and is powered by 2.4L Turbo diesel engine in both rear-wheel and 4-wheel drive configurations. The new Triton featured Mitsubishi's 4N15 common rail diesel engine with Easy Select 4wd on the GLX model and Super Select on the GLS and Exceed variants.
In 2017 a GLS Sport Edition was released with some nice accessories and a Triton Blackline edition featuring some extra electronic goodies and black wheels. The MQ.11 was realised in 2018 which featured a restyled front end, a Super-Select 4WD-II system and GLX+, GLS and GLS Premium variants. Further facelifts have been released with additional 4wd options.
