About Ford Mustang
The Ford Mustang was first released in 1964. The affordable price, large number of performance options and aggressive styling helped the Mustang to sell over 10 million units over its production run. From 1965 until 2004 the Mustang was able to be an entry level priced sports coupe by sharing design components with other models in the Ford lineup. The fifth and six generation Mustangs were independent, based on Fords rear-wheel drive platform.
Ford redesign the Mustang for the fifth generation with a throwback design to the fatback versions of the late 60s. The fifth generation S197 Mustang received a 4.0L V6 and the GT models a 4.6 L V8. A facelift in 2010 not only saw styling changes but an improved version of the 4.6L V8 for the GT model. 2011 and 2012 again saw mechanical improvements and the option of a 5.0L V8.
In 2014 the sixth generation (S550) Mustang was launched. Externally, the body was widened and lowered, and the styling was sharper and more aggressive. This car was optioned with a 5.0L V8 Coyote engine or a high performance 2.3L straight 4.
A new Ford Mustang is due in 2024.
