About Subaru Forester

The Forester was one of the first crossover SUVs, released in 1997 it was built on the Impreza but with a larger 2.5L engine from the Outback. The Forester featured a taller stance than the traditional wagon body and all-wheel drive.

The first generation SF lasted until 2002 with body changes in 2001 and improved engine output. In 2002 a second generation Forester was released based on the new Impreza platform. The Forester had three main models available until July 2005, which are X, XS and XT. Both the X and XS are equipped with the naturally aspirated 2.5 L engine producing, and the XT received the same engine with higher output. From the Series II, which was released in August 2005, the engine was upgraded for the X and XS and again for the XT.

The third generation SH was released in 2008. There were 7 variant trim levels X, XS, XS Premium in non-turbo engines and XT, XT Premium and S-Series with turbo engines plus a 2.0LDdiesel and 2.0L Premium Diesel models. In 2010 a facelift model arrived and Subaru switched to the third generation 2.5L boxer engines.

The fourth generation SJ had a major interior redesign and subsequently received a facelift in 2015. The fifth generation SK moved the Forester to the Subaru Global Platform. The new platform provides improved handling, agility, ride comfort and crash protection.
