About Toyota Camry

The Toyota Camry has been manufactured since 1982, originally a compact car it has grown and widened since 1990 to a mid-sized vehicle and now marketed as a luxury family sedan.

The wide-bodied Camry began production in the 1990s with a similar design and as an entry point to Lexus models at the time. Though internally, Toyota argued that there was too much market overlap between the Lexus and the Camry even though the Camry was front-wheel drive, and they shared no powertrain components. The Camry was successively refined down and simplified to match its price point and soon found its niche target market as a family sedan and wagon model.

With the release of the even larger XV30 generation model, the wagon was dropped due to the erosion of the sales by the growing SUV market. The XV40 release in 2006 saw the Camry split between the entry level family models and a prestige Toyota Aurion version. The Aurion featured revised front and back styling and came with an upgraded interior and the option of a 3.5L V6 engine. Aurion variants included the Prodigy and Sportivo.

The eighth generation of Camry (XV70) was a completely new design with no components shared with previous models and featured uprated inline 4 engines, the 3.5L V6 and included a Hybrid electric engine model. Aurion production was ceased with the release of the XV70.
