About Toyota HiLux
The Toyota HiLux has become famous for their simple, dependable design and study workhorse nature. Immortalised in episodes of TopGear where they tried to destroy the car in various ways, including parking it in the tidal zone only for it to subsequently start.
Beginning life in 1968, Hi-Lux has since undergone eight generations of design change. Initially, a Japanese short wheelbase pickup it has evolved to a longer sturdier chassis and is now most often sold as a 4x4 vehicle, though 4x2 pickups are also common for commercial use.
Traditionally, the HiLux was sold with an inline-4 diesel or petrol engine including 2.0, 2.4, 2.5, 2.7, 2.8 and 3L, however it is now also available with a petrol V6 engine. Variants of the Hilux include the TRD and the GR Sport, SR5 packages.
Hilux is now offered with 31 variants, 4×2 and 4×4, single, extra and double cabin styles, and WorkMate, SR and SR5 grade levels. Toyota has also added Hi-Rider variants for SR and SR5 models, with increased ride height and heavy-duty suspension and brakes.
